Junior Derby

The Paradise Roller Girls aim to provide a postive and fun environment for girls and young women to boost self-esteem, encourage sportswomanship and leadership skills, and promote healthy lifestyles through the sport of roller derby. The age of eligibility is 7-17.

Requirements for registration:
- Age groups 12-17, 7-11
- Girls can bring full gear to skate and be assessed. This is not mandatory for returning skaters but recommended.
- Cost $75 for new registration ($60 new sister registration), $60 for continuing participants ($45 sister registration)
Payment is due at time of registration. Deposit can be made at registration with approval from president with balance remaining due 2nd practice week.
NO EXCEPTIONS.
Required safety gear:
ALL GEAR MUST FIT PROPERLY. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Rookie Boot Camp - New Skaters
The Rookie Boot Camp is designed to teach new skaters ages 7-17, the basic skills needed to begin competing in the sport of roller derby. Once a skater has successfully completed the boot camp by passing minimum skills requirements, she will be invited to join one of the teams in her age group and participate in regular season practices. The curriculum of the Rookie Boot Camp will focus on strength training, flexibility, agility, and endurance.
The boot camps will be held at Wainaku Gym. The next 4-week boot camps are scheduled for Sundays, June 6-24, and Sundays, 8/26-9/23.
Regular Season Practices
Once skaters have completed minimum skills requirements, they will be invited to participate in regular season practices. The curriculum of the regular season practices will focus on strength training, flexibility, agility, endurance, strategies and rules. Encouraging participation in a unique and fast growing competitive sport, skaters will enjoy the benefits of increased physical activity.
Regular season practices are held at Wainaku Gym on Sundays from 12-1:30pm for ages 7-10 & from 1:30-3pm for ages 11-17.
Scheduled Seasons:
- 12-week Spring season from 2/19 – 5/13
- 8-week Summer season from 7/1 – 8/19
- 8-week Fall season from 9/30 – 11/18
Practices:
All Junior Derby practices are held at Wainaku Gym.
To get to Wainaku Gym from Hilo, go over the Singing Bridge heading north out of town. Take the first left onto Hau St. which goes up to Wainaku St. Take a right onto Wainaku and an immediate left onto Kaiwiki. Go up Kaiwiki until you get to Aikane Rd. and go left onto Aikane. The gym will be on the right.
